Important details about NEET

National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test, which is commonly known as NEET, is a national level medical entrance exam for admission to MBBS/BDS courses for Medical and Dental colleges across India. This test is regulated by the CBSE Board.

NEET-UG has replaced the All India Pre Medical Test/(AIPMT) and all other individual MBBS exams conducted by states or colleges themselves, from 2016 onwards. It will be considered as a qualifying norm at state-level exams such as IPUCET-MBBS and UP CPMT. The reason behind the introduction of this exam is to bring transparency to the whole admission process for MBBS and BDS courses. It will also spare students the stress of appearing in multiple medical entrance exams.

However, there are many Institutes that have taken a stay order and will have their own private examinations. Postgraduate Institute for Medical Education and Research in Chandigarh, undergraduate courses at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi, Jawarharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education & Research JIPMER are few notable ones that are outside the NEET’s purview. These institutes were set up by separate laws and regulations.

It is a one tier exam, conducted in an online mode. The application process for NEET 2017 will begin in the first week of December 2016, so the students planning to appear for the exam should pull up their socks for a rigorous grill.

This exam is held every year in the month of May. Without NEET score no student will be eligible to get into any medical/dental college. As ordered by Hon. Supreme Court, no other exam will be held for offering admission into courses like MBBS/BDS in India from the impending year 2017.

Before starting off with the preparation students should grab an idea about the basic details like application form, exam dates, exam pattern & syllabus, etc. Because only if they know these, they will be able to set up a proper study table, refer to books that are relevant and manage time effectively.

The market is brimming with a panoply of books for reference. But it is important for students to pick the right ones, unless they want to learn the same topics over and over again by referring numerous books. A candidate should first inquire about the important and informative books that are available and then check on its content list if it comprises the topics that are necessary.

After the completion of the learning process, a candidate should prepare himself for few mock test. The mock test helps student in a significant manner. It helps student to self-evaluate and know where exactly he stands. To some extent it notifies the candidate if he is in need of further improvements.
